Our History

For over 160 years, Boys & Girls Clubs have served as beacons of hope in neighborhoods across the country. The movement began in 1860 and has grown to serve millions of youth in every state. The Boys & Girls Club of Metro Tulsa carries that legacy forward, launching in August 2025 to serve the needs of children and families across the greater Tulsa area.

April 1860

The first Boys Club is founded in Hartford, Connecticut, by three women who wanted to give boys a positive alternative to street life.

The Boys Clubs of America national organization is officially formed.

The name is changed to Boys & Girls Clubs of America, reflecting a commitment to serving all youth.

BGCA is recognized by The Chronicle of Philanthropy as one of America’s top 10 nonprofit organizations.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Tulsa launches in three Tulsa Housing Authority locations, bringing nationally-recognized programming to meet the needs of Tulsa’s youth.

Our Policies

We are committed to the highest standards of safety, transparency, and accountability in everything we do.

Youth Safety Policy

We follow strict safety protocols and background checks for all staff and volunteers. Our safety measures align with national Boys & Girls Club standards, including ongoing staff training and crisis response preparedness.

We welcome all youth regardless of race, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, or socioeconomic status. Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do.

We protect the personal information of our members and families. Any data collected is used only to improve program delivery and is never sold or shared.

All staff, volunteers, and members are expected to follow our code of conduct, which promotes respect, responsibility, and positive behavior within all Club environments.

All Club staff are mandatory reporters of child abuse and neglect. We take this responsibility seriously and work closely with local authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of every young person we serve.
